Practical Skills for Interfaith Dialogue

Meet the Facilitator; Applications are Due!

Meet Fawaz, our Practical Skills for Interfaith Dialogue cohort program facilitator. He says, "I am a fifth-year Ph.D. Student at the School of Religious Studies. My research interest is broadly centered on the relationship between religion and urbanism in the Middle East and South Asia from a historical and comparative perspective. My Ph.D. thesis examines the importance of religious architecture and heritage in the everyday space-making of religious communities in Istanbul.

"I am excited to be a facilitator for the Interfaith Program. As someone interested in promoting faith diversity and dialogue in universities and other civic spaces in urban contexts, the Program will be an excellent opportunity for me to meet with McGill students of diverse backgrounds and facilitate them in enhancing their dialogue skills. I also hope to share the interfaith experience I gained through interacting with the students during my university studies in Delhi and Istanbul."

Applications are due Sunday, Jan. 22nd at 11:59 PM. Students of all backgrounds and belief systems are invited to get involved!

Cohort Experience Benefits:

  • Gain communication and collaboration skills that will support you in your studies and work

  • Earn CCR Credit
  • Connect with others and enjoy coffee, tea, and snacks at 4 in-person events happening Tuesdays at 4:00-5:30 PM on January 31, and February 7, 14 & 21.

Holidays & Holy Days

  • January 26 is Vasant Panchami, associated with Saraswati, the Goddess of Learning, and with Lakshmi, the Goddess of Wealth. Yellow clothes and yellow sweets, symbolizing both spirituality and the ripening of crops, are customary.
  • January 27 is Holocaust Remembrance Day. This day is set apart to remember and learn about the victims of the Holocaust. It is observed with ceremonies and activities at United Nations Headquarters in New York and at United Nations offices, Holocaust museums and other organizations around the world.
  • January 29 marks the National Day of Remembrance and Action against Islamophobia in Canada. It commemorates the tragic Quebec City mosque attack and is a time for all Canadians to remember the lives lost and irrevocably altered by an unspeakable act of terror and hatred. It is also an opportunity for all of us to strengthen our resolve to recognize, call out, and oppose the many manifestations of Islamophobia that persist today.
