Dr. Paul Allison’s tenure as Dean of the Faculty comes to an end on July 1. Before we usher in our new dean we took a few minutes to speak with Dr. Allison about his time as Dean and what the future holds for him, as well as open up the floor to those in the Faculty with questions. Dr. Francois Seng award Howard S. Katz Award for Excellence in Teaching

Congratulations to Dr. Meng Francois Seng for being awarded the Dr. Howard S. Katz Award for Excellence in Teaching. “It is such an immense privilege to be selected as the recipient of the prestigious Katz Award,” says Dr. Seng. “Being recognized by my peers, which includes past recipients and my own teachers and mentors for my work and contributions to the Faculty is very meaningful. Four Faculty researcher receive salary awards

Four researchers from the Faculty and two research trainees were successful in recent applications for salary awards. The funding, from both internal and external sources, will allow researchers to devote more time to research activities and help new investigators establish a body of research that will allow them to compete for competitive grants. Continue Reading.





Oral Health, Total Health – An opportunity to lead, connect, and share a smile!

McGill Dentistry participated in Sharing Smiles Day, an event ran by Oral Health, Total Health (OHTH) that gives dental students, dentists, and dental hygienists the chance to advocate, educate, and improve the oral health care of persons with special needs. The day is organised in association with the Myriam Home and Services. Continue Reading.



Dr. Irwin Fried awarded W.W. Wood Award for Excellence in Teaching

Congratulations to Dr. Irwin Fried for being awarded the W.W. Wood Award for Excellence in Teaching. “I’m touched and honoured to be chosen by the students for this award,” says Dr. Fried. “It means a lot to me that I am able to help, teach and guide them. I would like to thank them for choosing me!" The award is given annually to a deserving teaching chosen by 4th year students. Continue Reading.





Jim Lund Clinic welcomes new clinical supervisor

The Jim Lund Clinic welcomed Dr. Sofia Kholmogorova, new Clinical Director on board to help oversee the clinical activities and training of dental students. Dr. Kholmogorova has a passion for community dentistry and has been working in the community since completing her DMD from Univeristé de Montréal. Continue Reading.






RSBO Annual Research Day

On June 12th 2018, the RSBO network held an inspiring annual research day featuring nearly 150 participants at the New Residence Hall. 50 posters and 34 short talks on public health, technological development and basic research were presented as well as three booths from its industrial partners. Continue Reading.





Marc McKee

I have studied biomineralization and osteopontin for almost 30 years now, a protein present in bones and teeth, but also almost everywhere in the body with an important role in our natural tissues and organs. During this time, there was a small startup biotech company in Montreal working on bone disease that was headed by a colleague that I knew quite well and who knew of my work. Continue Reading.

On May 28, our annual Montreal reception brought out more than 60 alumni, students, faculty and staff, including out-of-towners who attended the JDIQ conference, to the Chez Plume at the Intercontinental Hotel. The group enjoyed cocktails and appetizers, and was joined by both outgoing Dean Paul Allison and incoming Dean Dr. Elham Emami. See photos of the event here.
