Professors Khoutorsky and Martel among 23 McGill researchers to receive CFI investment

Last month the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science, announced a total investment of $52 million from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) John R. Evans Leaders Fund. Two Faculty of Dentistry professors were among the 23 McGill projects selected in the latest round of the funding competition.

Dr. Eduardo Franco receives the Dr. Chew Wei Memorial Prize in Cancer Research

Dr. Eduardo Franco, Associate Member with the Faculty of Dentistry, has been selected as the 2017 recipient of the Dr. Chew Wei Memorial Prize in Cancer Research, given by the University of British Columbia (UBC). The $50,000 award makes the prize among the most lucrative honours given by a Canadian university. Congratulations Dr. Franco!

Newly discovered pathway for pain processing could lead to new treatments 

The discovery of a new biological pathway involved in pain processing offers hope of using existing cancer drugs to replace the use of opioids in chronic pain treatment, according to scientists at McGill University.  Read more.



What is hypophosphatasia (HPP)?

Dr. Marc McKee was featured in a 4-part series on Oasis Discussions, speaking of a soft bone disease which also has a significant dental impact. Hypophosphatasia (HPP) is a very rare disease that has a prevalence of approximately 1:100,000 live births.  Listen to his full presentation.









Advisory Committee for the Selection of a new Dean


Professor Paul Allison will end his second five-year term as Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry on June 30, 2018. As part of the Advisory Committee’s consultation process, the Committee will be holding face-to-face meetings with the McGill community on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 between 2:00 and 4:00 pm in room 102, 2001 McGill College Avenue. See here for full details.

An Exemplary Community Service Program


On August 23rd 2017 Dr. Frances Anne Power and her team hosted Margie Steffens Lecturer and Director of Community Outreach at University of Adelaide Dental School. The purpose of her visit “to talk with other people involved in Outreach and community based programs that include services for marginalised populations and education and research for dental students and inter-professional opportunities.” She is interested in the possible expansion to a mobile clinic!
