Chez Doris Holiday Box

Dental students are organizing a holiday box donation run for Chez Doris, a women's shelter in Montreal.

The aim is for each person to donate 1 gift box, which includes

  • $5 Tims or McDonald's gift cards
  • 4 bus tickets (NOT day passes, just 1 time use so about $3.50 each)
  • Nice warm socks
  • Hand wipes (not Lysol wipes or hand sanitizer, just regular sanitizing wipes)
  • Chapstick
  • Mittens or hat or scarf (Pick only 1)
  • A nice anonymous message wishing them happy holidays!

The holidays are a time for warmth and love, so let us try to spread that to the people that need it most! Drop off: box next to reception desk on 2nd floor dental clinic.



Editorial: Black Lives Matter Is About More Than Police Behavior

In their recent editorial published in JDR Clinical & Translational Research, Faculty Professor Dr. Jocelyne Feine and co-author Dr. Effie Ioannidou write, “systemic racism in the justice system is only part of the brutality suffered by communities of Black, Indigenous, people of color (BIPOC); the abuse also extends to institutional racism within social, environmental, and economic structures and directly affects systemic and oral health.”


Meanwhile, the Faculty of Dentistry has launched a EDI Committee co-chaired by Drs. Firoozeh Samim and Anita Brown-Johnson.

In memoriam: Dr. Tibor Bertalan

Dr Tibor Bertalan passed away in September at the age of 78. Dr. Bertalan joined our Faculty in 2001 and until his retirement last year, was a constant presence in the Thursday afternoon multidisciplinary clinics. Tibor treasured his appointment as a clinical demonstrator and approached his students with a thoughtful, caring and gentle demeanor.

The recent Halloween celebration at the Faculty was also an experiment in hybrid events - mixing a zoom session to make contact those on the other side with costumed clinicians and students continuing their important work in the clinic!

Drs. Tabrizian & Mogil elected into Canadian Academy of Health Sciences as new Fellow

The Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (CAHS) announced 77 new Fellows to its ranks, 10 of which are from McGill, including Faculty of Dentistry Professor Dr. Maryam Tabrizian and Dr. Jeffrey Mogil, Director of the Alan Edwards Centre for Research on Pain. One of the most prestigious honours in the Canadian health sciences community, election to the CAHS recognizes individuals for their leadership in and commitment to their field of expertise.

Remembrance Day

The Faculty of Dentistry shares a long and cherished history with those who served. From the deployment of a mobile dental clinic in 1941, to the many challenges the Faculty faced when many of its students and instructors served in the first World War.

In this latest online education session hosted by Dr. Chantal Czerednikow, a team of multidisciplinary experts turn their focus to the management of patients with cleft lip and palate.

Dean Emami & Dr. Bassel Kano Named ACD Fellows

Faculty of Dentistry Dean Dr. Elham Emami and Dr. Bassel Kano, Associate Professor and Director of Endodontics, have received important fellowships from the American College of Dentists, the oldest major honorary organization for dentists, which grants to grant fellowships to those who have done meritorious work.
