The Lancet Launches Series on Oral Health

Dentistry Professor Dr. Paul J. Allison is among 13 academic and clinical experts from 10 countries brought in by medical journal The Lancet for its series on Oral Health. The journal series signals an important shift for dental research in a global context; Dr. Allison notes, "New approaches to reduce common causes of dental disease...are urgently needed to address these increasing inequalities.”

Dr. Meloto Publishes JADA Cover Story, Wins Research Award

Following her cover story publication in The Journal of the American Dental Association (JADA), Faculty of Dentistry researcher Dr. Carolina Beraldo Meloto received the International Association for the Study of Pain's Early Career Research Grant Award for her research on chronic pain.

Dean Emami Receives ADQ 

Earlier this year, Dr. Retrouvey received the title of Fellow from the Académie dentaire du Québec. During the ceremony, Dean Elham Emami was also welcomed to the Académie as an Honorary Fellow, which was presented by Dr. Gilles Lavigne.

Best of Luck: Dr. Martine Lévesque

Martine Lévesque has been with the Faculty in various roles since 2006. Having recently completed her postdoctoral fellowship, Martine is leaving McGill, and beginning a new stage of her career as Assistant Professor in the Université de Montréal's Faculty of Medicine School of Rehabilitation.

Dentistry Receives Eagle Spirit

Campers

Eagle Spirit Science Futures is a bridge platform for Indigenous youth to connect with health professions at McGill University. On day 2 of their 6-day retreat, campers visited the Dentistry Simulation Lab, where volunteers from the Faculty introduced them to the dental profession.

Dr. Tabrizian Receives Multidisciplinary Collaborative Grant

Dentistry researcher Dr. Maryam Tabrizian and a multidisciplinary team of researchers received funding from the country’s three federal granting councils—Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council— to continue developing an innovative, non-invasive solution for bone regeneration.

Dentistry Researchers Contribute to World Health Organization Report

Drs. Faleh Tamimi and Elham Emami are two of the many researchers who contributed to the World Health Organization's final report of the Global mOralHealth Meeting., to be published as part of the WHO's Be He@lthy, Be Mobile Handbooks.

 

 

 

Grant Success for Faculty Researchers

Grant season was favourable for Dentistry researchers, as they received numerous awards from various research funds including NSERC, CIHR, and the Fonds de la recherche scientifique.

Get Hyped for a Good Cause on September 21st!

For the last 13 years, the Run for Outreach has been a student-led annual fundraiser where members from the Dentistry community run through Mont Royal to raise funds for the Faculty's Service to the Community Program.

This year, the Faculty of Dentistry is launching a film screening series to promote discussion of health and dentistry with special guests, organized by Dr. Christophe Bedos. Every month, the Faculty will invite members from its community to watch a curated film, and discuss related themes relevant to dentistry and health. 

 

For the first session will be September 17th, at 5:30pm (Jim Lund Lecture Room)
