Special Issue: International Women's Day, March 8th, 2019

Dear members of the Dentistry community,

Every year on March 8, International Women's Day is an occasion to celebrate the achievements of women, raise awareness against bias, and take action for equality. This year's campaign theme is

#BalanceforBetter, because a balanced world is a better world.

Last month, we highlighted the many achievements of women in the Faculty of Dentistry during the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. But there is so much more to celebrate. Women in the Faculty of Dentistry play important roles not only at McGill, but in health science research at outreach at large. To name but a few of these recent accomplishments: in the Faculty of Dentistry, women are

Striking a gendered balance in research funding from the CIHR.

Taking innovative research on C-Marker to the Dobson Cup Finals Health Sciences track.

Lending expertise to an independent panel with the Council of Canadian Academies.

Leading dental research in the Jewish General Hospital.

With the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada's recent announcement of a new grant building a more robust research program of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, one thing remains clear: balance drives a better working world.
