A look at the University Animal Care Program with Dr. Laura Stone

Dr. Laura Stone’s work with the University goes well beyond the lab. As part of her service to the University community, she is Chair of the University Animal Care Committee (UACC). It’s a huge time and energy commitment that helps to guarantee that the use of animals for research and teaching purposes on campus is validated for scientific and ethical merit as well as following institutional and governmental policies and guidelines. Read more.


Jeffrey Mogil on Melzack and Wall’s Gate Control Theory  

Nov. 19 marks the 50th anniversary of the publication of the single most important scientific article in the field of pain, “Pain Mechanisms: A New Theory” co-authored by McGill’s Ronald Melzack and the late Patrick Wall. One in five Canadians suffers from chronic pain. Dr. Luda Diatchenko, McGill’s Canada Excellence Research Chair in Human Pain Genetics, is working on providing relief by using genetic analysis to develop personalized medications and treatments. Read more.
