Spotlight: Dr. Earl Karanofsky wins Dr. Ralph Silverstone Award

  Dr. Earl Karanofsky is passionate about teaching! Whether it be in the clinic, on faculty committees, at fundraising events, he always takes the time to be involved and is very deserving of this year’s Dr. Ralph Silverstone Award. The award recognizes his outstanding contribution to the undergraduate teaching program. He sat down with me to talk about teaching and practicing dentistry. Read the full interview here.

Behind the Scenes: Dr. Hovey’s role as Director of Faculty Development

With a background in pedagogy, Dr. Richard Hovey is well positioned for the role of Directory of Faculty Development. He is here to assist the Faculty’s teaching staff with their teaching and assessment needs. Dr. Hovey is available to all teaching staff, whether the course be at the undergraduate level, the graduate level, in the classroom or in the clinic. Read the full story here.


Ph.D. students Omar Alageel and Anu Eddasseri win 1st and 2nd in CADR-NCOHR Student Award Competition

Congratulations to Ph.D. students Omar Alageel and Anu Eddasseri for winning first and second place respectively in the Senior Clinical Science Research Category of the CADR-NCOHR Student Award Competition. The will present their research at the AADR/CADR meeting in Los Angeles, CA, USA, March 16-19, 2016. Read the full story here.


Professor Komarova participates at the 20th edition of Soup and Science

Svetlana Komarova emphasized the importance of being persistent when applying to a lab. She was one of the many professors that gave a brief three to five minute presentations on their work during this year’s edition of Soup and Science. Created by the Office of Undergraduate Research in 2005, Soup and Science has helped create a platform for students to meet professors and get acquainted with their research. Seeds of Change Dental Outreach Project a Success

The Seeds of Change Dental Outreach crowd funding program has come to a close at 110% of its original fundraising objective! The Dental Outreach Project has raised $2,203.33 from 46 donations, well above the initial goal of $2000.  A HUGE THANK YOU to all involved for all your hard work in promoting dental outreach. Dr. Faleh Tamimi contributes to recently published book

Professor Faleh Tamimi is a contributor author of the recently published book “Advanced Aspects of Imaging in Oral Implantology”. The book, edited by his past visiting student Arthur Cortes, is intended for DMD students, oral and maxillofacial radiologists, periodontists and oral surgeons. Read the full story here.

We are looking for Part-time Clinical or Pre-Clinical Supervisory Staff that are interested in being nominated to sit on the Faculty’s Executive Committee. Please see the Memorandum with instructions on how to apply and who is eligible to apply.

Oral Health Posters Submissions

Students – Want to have your work shown in the reception area of the Undergraduate Teaching Clinic? We are looking for posters that create awareness around oral health issues to show to our patients while they wait for their appointments. Please send all submissions to Brenna.

Recruitment of MMI Evaluators

The Faculty is using Multiple Mini-Interviews (MMI) to select candidates for the DMD and DENT-P programs again this year. As every year, evaluators are needed for half-day sessions to rate MMI stations in both French and English. Click here if you are interested in learning more about becoming an evaluator.
