Dear colleagues,
As you all know, last Friday morning, the Faculty held a big event to announce the creation of our new facility, into which we will move next summer. For those of you who were unable to be present, I wanted to let you know that the event was a great success – I had many people tell me during and after the event how good it was and how excited they are about this fantastic project. We had a fantastic turnout, with many students and staff and alumni present, in addition to the Principal, Chancellor, Chairman of the Board, Provost and other senior leaders in the University. And for those of you who were there, thanks very much for taking the time to come and support the Faculty. It was great to feel part of such a fantastic project and touring the facility, there was a palpable sense of excitement among those who were present. In addition, we managed to generate a fair amount of media interest, all of which was very positive.
Of course an event like this does not happen on its own. Many people were involved from both the Faculty and the University’s administration and I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of you who helped make the event such a success. I have written to all of those directly involved and I cannot name you all publically but I think it important to highlight in particular the efforts of Valerie Khayat, Ioana Dumitru, Carol D’Souza and Christine Vroom and of course Sina’s fantastic speech! In addition, thanks to Jeff Myers and Brenda Rhodes for their great work in coordinating all the efforts necessary to move this wonderful project forward.
Thanks to all of you. I think we can all be very proud being part of, and each making our own contribution to, such a fantastic Faculty.
Dean Allison

Talking Research and Learning with Dr. Laura Stone and Dr. Richard Hovey
McGill's Faculty of Dentistry is a dynamic and diverse environment where dental students, graduate students, professors, dentists, specialists, researchers and staff all interact. It is, in countless ways, a wonderful example of a space where collaborations occur among colleagues and across disciplines. Dr. Laura Stone and Dr. Richard Hovey are bringing this interdisciplinary spirit to research as they team up to offer a new model of research seminars to graduate students in the Faculty this year. In fact, the first of the new 2013-2014 research seminars takes place tomorrow, October 25th. I met with Professors Stone and Hovey earlier this fall to discuss the meaning of learning, of collaboration as well as the evolution of their own thinking regarding interdisciplinary work as researchers. Listen to the audio interview here.
