Putting Saliva to Good Use

"If researchers could find a non-invasive, physiological tool to diagnose Parkinson’s disease, it might be easier to start treatment earlier. At McGill University, Dr. Mervyn Gornitsky believes he has done just that—by measuring the quantity of a protein called heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) in samples of the saliva of people who have Parkinson’s."

Discover Days in Health Sciences

Discovery Days in Health Sciences are one-day events that give secondary school students the opportunity to explore a variety or career options in medicine and the health sciences. Highschool students had the opportunity for hands-on learning in radiograph and dental impression activities lead by DMD students.

Dentistry Researchers Receive AAIDF Grant

Dr. Firoozeh Samim and graduate student Sheri Iskander have received funding from the American Academy of Implant Dentistry Foundation for their reserach project on post-implant neuropathy.

Outreach Benefit Concert

On November 13th, the Outreach Benefit Concert brought together students from Medicine and Dentistry performing classical pieces to raise funds for the services McGill Dentistry offers to the community, such as the mobile dental clinic.

Hygienists Beware: DIY dentistry is trending

Jessica Anne Hyppolite (BSc, RHD), dental hygienist in the Student and Staff Dental Clinic and Undergraduate Dental Clinic, delivers an important message on DIY dental practices, including clear aligners and charcoal based toothpastes.

The most popular stories of 2019



February: Dentistry Researchers Receive $5M in CIHR Funding

Six research projects lead by researchers in the Faculty of Dentistry and its affiliated institutes have been awarded Project Grants totalling nearly $5 million from the CIHR.

May: Welcoming the DMD Class of 2019

On May 28th, Dentistry students celebrated their time at McGill among friends, family, colleagues, and became part of the McGill Dentistry family of alumni.

February: Winter Outreach Fundraising Success

On February 2nd, the Faculty of Dentistry celebrated the 21st anniversary of the Outreach program with a night at the Museum of Fine Arts. With art appreciation, a variety of prizes, and live music–this night at the museum was one to remember.

September: Running for a Good Cause

For the last 13 years, the Run for Outreach has been a student-led annual fundraiser where members from the Dentistry community run through Mont Royal to raise funds for the Faculty's Service to the Community Program.

March: McGill24, a Day of Giving

McGill24 was a colossal success. The Faculty of Dentistry went beyond its goal of 100 donors, unlocking an extra $46,000! This year, McGill raised nearly $2.3M through a historic 5244 gifts in a single day.

October: White Coat Ceremony

The White Coat Ceremony is one of the most important events in our students' passage through McGill, and remains our most cherished ceremony. It marks the transition of third year students from the classroom to the clinic, as they receive their official white coats from their fourth year peers.
