Appointment of new Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry

Professor Elham Emami the Faculty of Dentistry’s next Dean will officially begin her mandate on July 1st, 2018. But she is not a stranger to the Faculty. She has been an Adjunct Professor at McGill since 2011. Faculty of Dentistry has unprecedented success in CIHR competition

The Faculty of Dentistry won seven awards totalling over $3 million during the Fall 2017 competition, a testament to the quality and quantity of research being done in the Faculty. Nine researchers from researcher both divisions will benefit from this new funding. Continue reading.




Dr. Jake Barralet appointed Director of Innovation, Steinberg Centre for Simulation and Interactive Learning and the Faculty of Medicine

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Jake Barralet to the position of Director of Innovation for the Steinberg Centre for Simulation and Interactive Learning (SCSIL) and for the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. Reporting to the Director of the SCSIL, Dr. Barralet’s primary role will be to position the Faculty of Medicine as a leader in clinical innovation. Read more.




DMD students elected to FCDSA Council

Two McGill dental students, Natalie Pollock and David Wu were elected to important roles in the FCDSA Council. “We hope to inspire our peers to dream more, learn more, do more, become more”, says Natalie of being given the opportunity to represent her peers. Continue reading.




2018 Dental Bears Necessities mission offers care to Ecuadorians

Chrissa Zarafonitis, Krystal Major and Thea Worthylake just got home from an enriching cultural and educational adventure in Ecuador. A team of 13 traveled to Riobamba and the Amazon jungle to provide free dental care to local communities. The team was immersed into local culture – the famous Ecuadorian cuy and fried larvae – and learnt about local wildlife. For the three DMD students having one-on-one learning and mentoring with dedicated instructors was a unique experience and one they are thankful to have the opportunity to do. See photos from the trip on Facebook and continue to support Dental Bears Necessities at their upcoming concert.





JDR Clinical & Translational Research Wins PROSE Award for "Best New Journal in Biological and Life Sciences"

IADR/AADR's newest Journal, the JDR Clinical & Translational Research (JDR CTR), won the PROSE Award for " Best New Journal in Biological and Life Sciences." Jocelyne Feine, McGill University, Montréal, QC, Canada, is the Editor of this quarterly, peer-reviewed journal that encompasses all areas of clinical and translational research in the dental, oral and craniofacial sciences. Read more.

At the beginning of this month, the Faculty welcomed its newest member, Cristina Longo. Cristina will be working alongside Iren as HR Administrator to support the HR activities of the Faculty. Continue reading.

“Years ago, during my OMFS residency, I accompanied Dr Bentley, Program Director of OMFS at the time, to Iqaluit Baffin Island for a one-week rotation performing dentoalveolar surgery in this far north community...My time in Iqaluit Baffin Island marked me in many positive ways and led me to take on other similar challenges.”
