How To Register for Exam Accommodations

1. Refer to the exam type, exam/release date, and due date outlined on the final exam schedule.

2. Please note that time-based accommodations do not apply for:

  • Take-home exams: You have 48 hours or more to complete your exam (i.e. from the release date up to the due date/time) and can be opened and closed as often as you wish.
  • Timed exams within a designated window AND your instructor is incorporating principles of inclusive pedagogy (i.e. your exam has been designed to be written in half of the allotted time).

3. Use the appropriate exam sign-up form to request exam accommodations through the OSD, when applicable.

What to expect

Evening exam time changes: all exams scheduled during the 6:30 pm session will be rescheduled to start earlier for all OSD students. You will be informed via email starting the week of November 22nd about your updated exam time.

Sequestering: all students writing evening exams (6:30 pm session) will be required to be sequestered until 7:30 pm, regardless of the time that the student finishes their exam. Students will not have access to personal electronic devices while being sequestered However, snacks or physical reading materials are permitted. Sequestered students remain supervised until the sequester period is over. Sequestering is not optional, due to exam security policies on campus.

Final Exam Conflicts

If you meet the definition for an academic conflict, or a religious conflict for your exams, consult the McGill Exams Website and follow the instructions in order to obtain a resolution. These types of conflicts are coordinated directly via the Central Exams Office.

Due to the nature of exam accommodations, you may meet the criteria for an OSD student conflict. An OSD student conflict occurs when a student, by virtue of their disability-related exam accommodations, is scheduled to write more than 8 hours of exams in one day. If you have signed up for your exams, and meet the criteria for an OSD conflict, you will be contacted via your McGill email by a member of the Exam Center Staff.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to the OSD if you have any questions, or would like additional information. You can also contact our Exam Coordinators at exams.osd@mcgill.ca and our Associate Director of Exams and Operations, Effie Konstantinopoulos, directly at efstathia.konstantinopoulos@mcgill.ca.
