If you have COVID symptoms:

  • If you have COVID symptoms, you should not come to campus, even for an exam. Please complete the COVID self-assessment form for guidance as to your next steps. If you need to request a deferred exam, you can find the process outlined here.

General exam information

The OSD follows theexam regulations outlined by McGill

Confirmation notification

Students will receive a confirmation notification (to their McGill email) to confirm that they have been added the OSD Final Exam schedule. A separate email will be sent for each course for which a student has registered for exam accommodations.

Times and locations

Downtown campus

  • Students will receive a tentative time notification (with the scheduled start time) approximately 5 days before each scheduled exam.

  • A subsequent notification will be sent out the business day prior to each exam with confirmed exam start time and location. Please check this notification carefully as the start time may have been updated. A list of possible exam locations can be found at the end of this message.

  • Evening exams (listed with start time of 6:30pm on the Central Exams’ Final Exam schedule) will begin earlier in order to manage student accommodations within a reasonable schedule. Students will need to remain sequestered until 7:30pm. Please see information below.

MacDonald campus

  • Students should have received an email notification with their scheduled start time and locations already for all in-person exams. If you signed up for an exam but have not received any email from osd.macdonald@mcgill.ca, please contact us ASAP.

  • Please check this notification carefully as the start time of your exam may have been modified.

Arriving for your exam

You will be able to enter the exam room ten (10) minutes before the exam is scheduled to begin. Please confirm your accommodations, as well as any exam instructions (e.g., use of formula sheet), with the invigilator BEFORE you start your exam.

Assistive technology: If you will be using Assistive Technology (e.g., WordQ, Antidote, Dragon) as part of your authorized exam accommodations, please plan to arrive 15 minutes before your exam start time. This will allow our team to verify with you that the assistive software/technology set-up you’ve requested for this exam is complete, and ready for you to begin writing your exam on-time.

Late arrivals: Students who arrive late for their exam will not be provided with extra time to make up for the time they missed. Students who arrive more than one (1) hour after the original exam start time (i.e., the start time listed on the Final Exam schedule) will not be permitted to enter the exam room.

Depending on the start time of your exam, you may need to besequestered(see below) to maintain exam security.

You will not be able to access electronic devices during the sequestering period. We suggest bringing non-electronic reading or study materials and a snack.

Students will need to remain sequestered until one (1) hour after the original exam start time (i.e., the start time listed on Final Exam schedule).

Original exam start time:

  • 9:00am – students will be sequestered until 10:00am.

  • 2:00pm – students will be sequestered until 3:00pm.

  • 6:30pm – students will be sequestered until 7:30pm.

What to bring with you:

  • You will not be able to keep your bag/coat with you during the exam. Leave your valuables at home!

  • McGill ID card – you will need to provide this to the Invigilators

  • Layered clothing – the temperature in exam rooms may vary. Dress in layers so that you will be comfortable!

  • Pens/pencils

  • Calculator, dictionary (if this is approved by your instructor) – these materials will not be provided to you if you forget unless it is specifically part of your accommodation plan

  • Water in a bottle with no label

  • Book or study materials to access during sequester time

  • Earplugs or non-electronic earmuffs* – we will have foam earplugs available if you don’t have any or if you forget them at home

The OSD exam environment

The OSD requests that all students, invigilators/exam coordinators and staff actively participate in ensuring that noise levels remain at a minimum during the exam period. If you are concerned that you may be affected by environmental noises, we would encourage you to bring a pair of non-electronic sound blocking earmuffs. Active noise-cancelling headphones (Beats, Bose, etc.) will not be permitted. See below for examples.

If you feel that you will need earmuffs to help limit noise, you are responsible to bring your own (just as you are responsible to bring your own pencils/pens, calculator if permitted, etc.). The OSD will provide foam earplugs to any student who requests these – ask your invigilator to provide you with a pair if needed.
