COVID Protocols

  • Please see McGill Exams for full details

  • Everyone in exam rooms will be required to wear a procedural mask at all times.

  • Fresh procedural masks and hand sanitizer will be available at the entrance to each room. As a reminder, it is highly recommended to replace your mask every four hours to ensure they remain effective.

  • Masks and hand sanitizers will be at the entrances of most buildings where final exams will be held.

  • Disinfecting wipes will be available in each exam room for students who wish to clean their seat and desk before the start of the exam.

If you have COVID symptoms:

  • If you have COVID symptoms, you should not come to campus, even for an exam. Please complete the COVID self-assessment form for guidance as to your next steps. If you need to request a deferred exam, you can find the process outlined here.

General exam information

The OSD follows the exam regulations outlined by McGill

Times and locations:

  • All students will receive an email indicating their exam location by noon, the business day before each exam

  • If the start time of your exam has been changed, you will:

  • Receive an email informing you of your adjusted start time

  • Evening exams start earlier to manage student accommodations within a reasonable schedule

  • Depending on the start time of your exam, you may need to be sequestered (see below) to maintain exam security.

  • This typically occurs for evening exams, where you will need to be sequestered until 7:30 p.m.

  • You will not be able to access electronic devices during the sequestering period. Bring non-electronic reading or study materials and a snack.

What to bring with you:

  • You will not be able to keep your bag/coat with you during the exam. Leave your valuables at home!

  • McGill ID card – you will need to provide this to the Invigilators

  • Earplugs – we will have some available if you don’t have any or forget

  • Layered clothing – the temperature in exam rooms may vary. Dress in layers so that you will be comfortable!

  • Pens/pencils

  • Calculator, dictionary (if this is approved by your instructor) – these materials will not be provided to you if you forget unless it is specifically part of your accommodation plan

  • Water in a bottle with no label

If you are unwell the day of an exam and cannot write

If you believe you are unable to write your final exam due to a serious health or wellness condition, or another extenuating circumstance, you may be eligible to apply for an exam deferral, depending on your faculty rules and regulations.

  • Please refer to the Exams website for the application dates and when the exam schedule will be posted.

  • If you take your final exam, you are not eligible to apply for a deferred exam. This includes receiving the final exam from your instructor but not completing it.
