I missed the deadline to register for my final exam accommodations. What do I do?


The deadline to register for final exam accommodations was Friday November 5, 2021. If you have missed the deadline to register for final exam accommodations:

  • Please email Late requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. 

  • Please note that there is no guarantee that we will be able to schedule late registrations. Students should prepare to write with their peers or at home (based on how your exam has been scheduled) unaccommodated.

  • The OSD Exam Centre’s operating hours are 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday. The Exam Centre is closed for statutory holidays.

  • The exam type, release date, and due date of final exams are outlined on the final exam schedule.


Online exams


Please note that individual time-based accommodations do not apply* for:

  • Take home exams: If you have 48 hours or more to complete your exam (i.e. from the release date up to the due date/time) and it can be opened and closed as often as you wish.

  • Timed open-book exams that have been accessibly designed to incorporate additional time in the scheduled exam duration. 


*If exceptional circumstances arise for which you require disability-related accommodations, please reach out to our Exam Centre Manager, Claire Burrows directly, so that she may assess the case.

I believe I have an exam conflict. What do I do?


There are 3 types of exam conflicts: Academic Conflicts, Religious Conflicts, OSD Conflicts.


Academic and Religious Conflicts are resolved through Central Exams.

  • Please communicate the resolution to the OSD Exam Center at no later than 14 days before the date of your exam.


OSD Conflicts occur when a student, by virtue of their disability-related accommodations, is scheduled to write more than 8 hours of exams in one day (please note Stop Watch time is not counted towards writing time).


  • You will be contacted at your McGill email address to notify you of a conflict and available options (e.g., taking multiple exams in the same day or moving one exam) to resolve the conflict. Please reply as soon as possible with your preferred option.

  • If you do not reply by the deadline provided in the email, you will be scheduled to write any applicable exams in the same day.

  • If you believe that you have an OSD conflict and you have you not been contacted directly, please email as soon as possible and notify the team. Include the date and course details.


*Please note that the OSD does not have the authority to move final exams in situations where there is no conflict (e.g., due to a student’s scheduling preferences).

I do not feel like I will be able to write my final exams. What do I do?


If you believe you are unable to write your final exam due to a serious health or wellness condition, or another extenuating circumstance, you may be eligible to apply for an exam deferral, depending on your faculty rules and regulations.

  • Thedeferred and supplemental exam period will be held February 28 - March 3, 2022.

  • Please refer to the Exams website for the application dates and when the exam schedule will be posted.

  • If you take your final exam, you are not eligible to apply for a deferred exam. This includes receiving the final exam from your instructor but not completing it.

  • For students in the Faculty of Engineering or in the Faculty of Law, please refer to your Faculty's websites for more information.

  • Information regarding the process for students who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms will be provided soon. Please watch for official communication from McGill related to this.
