As we look forward to the holiday closure, students are asked to think carefully about holiday plans that will involve travel outside of Canada.
The Government of Canada, as part of the Quarantine Act, requires that anyone travelling outside of Canada completes a mandatory quarantine for 14 days upon returning to Canada. In addition, as a Designated Learning Institution, Mohawk College has requirements related to supporting and being aware of travel outside of Canada.
To ensure you are supported in meeting these mandatory requirements, including developing a quarantine plan and completing a COVID-19 test, all students, domestic and international, currently living in Canada who have plans to travel outside of the country are required to indicate their travel plans through the Mohawk student Intent to Travel form.
The Government of Canada is mandating one COVID-19 test to be administered to every student who has travelled internationally. This test should be undertaken during the 14-day quarantine period and in advance of arrival to campus, or classes starting. Ideally, this test will be completed by students on days 5, 6, or 7 of their self-isolation period.
If you are planning to travel outside of the country during the holiday break, plan sufficient time to complete the 14-day quarantine period in advance of classes starting. This includes students who are studying remotely. (See the Winter 2021 Program Delivery webpage for “arrive by” dates.) As a reminder, students will not be permitted on campus for classes if this quarantine period has not been completed. Students should also understand the quarantine requirements for countries outside of Canada as they will have their own unique mandatory requirements. In addition, students should be aware that the ability to travel between countries can change quickly where you may find yourself with reduced flights back to Canada or longer delays than originally planned.
All students who will be travelling outside of Canada during the holiday break are required to download the iCent app.
This app will help us to support you as you create your quarantine plan and will provide you with information and resources that are available. Please reference the Entering Canada webpage for instructions on how to download the iCent app and the mandatory ArriveCAN app
