What's happening at the MSA this fall?

Hey Mohawk students! October is here, and while it may seem spooky that the first month of school is already over there is no need to fear!

Whether you’re fully online or coming to campus for some classes, you can still lean on the MSA as your (virtual) built-in best friend on campus for support.

Here’s how you can meet the MSA virtually:

Advocacy:

From ‘Post-Secondary Affordability’ initiatives, ‘Student Representative Committees’, to ‘Advocacy Priorities’, the MSA strives to advocate for all students. We work to ensure your voices are being heard on all levels – within Mohawk College, and the Hamilton community. The MSA assures students are regularly kept up-to-date with what the Association has and is working on, however, if you ever have any questions please do not hesitate to ask!

Services:

The MSA works to provide virtual services that will aid you throughout your college career. We offer services that assist students both on and off-campus – such as equipment loans, a food bank, career closet, and health and dental insurance.

This fall, the Services team will be hosting the following virtual activities (keep an eye on @MSAMohawk on social media for details).

  • Thanksgiving Give-A-Way
  • World Mental Health Day
  • Transformation Challenge
  • Professional Week

Events:

The MSA Events team used their magic to throw several incredible virtual events in September (freestyle rapping comedians... need we say more?), and they have more up their sleeves for October.

Here are a few upcoming virtual events:

  • The Mystery of the Cellar Ghost (Oct. 8, Oct. 14. Oct 15, Oct 22.): Legend says since 1891 a ghost has made The Cellar its home. But no one has been able to figure out who the ghost of The Cellar is? Help crack the case!
  • Listen & Engage: MSA Speaker Series feat. Alayna Fender and Host, Farrah Khan: Alayna is a 28-year-old Canadian, with a powerful message and story to share. You won’t want to miss out on her virtual talk on Oct. 20 at 12 p.m.!
  • What’s In Your Cards?: Psychic & Tarot Readings: On Oct. 27, starting at 7 p.m., Kingston-based psychic Marilyn Shannon will be doing virtual readings for eight Mohawk students. Register for the event ASAP so you don’t miss out!

Clubs:

Are you looking for a way to (pumpkin) spice up your college experience? Join a club and elevate your Mohawk College experience.

Head over to mohawkstudents.ca/clubs to see what clubs are running, virtually, for FALL 2020. Don’t see a club that suits your interests? Start your own! The MSA is looking for students to create and build additional clubs (and it’s as easy as 1 2 3 – follow the instructions online).

Email msaclubs@mohawkcollege.ca for more information or if you have questions. Also, something exciting will be happening in November - virtual Clubs month, watch the MSA Clubs page and check MSA social media for upcoming details!

A Message From Your Mohawk Students’ Association President, Garrett Blair:

Hi everyone! Garrett Blair here! I wanted to congratulate everyone on completing the first month of the Fall term! I know there were some challenges, but you all should be proud of yourself for your accomplishments. With Fall here, as well as a surge of COVID cases in Ontario, please continue to exercise social distancing, mask-wearing, and following Public Health’s guidelines. Stay safe everyone!

MSA President Garrett Blair
