A message from Campus Life & Engagement, the one office dedicated to new McGill students.

Hey there Campus Life & Engage!

Embarking on a new experience like coming to McGill can seem both scary and exciting. Building connections, whether to peers, faculty, or support services is a great way to start getting involved in the community! These connections can help you navigate your way through your first year at McGill. This week, we’d like to help you build connections to several important resources for new students!

Take Note!

  1. Check out CL&E's important dates cheat sheet for registration deadlines, info on orientation and more!
  2. McGill offers several peer support programs that will help you connect with fellow new students and returning upper years. See our “Connect” section below for a breakdown of your many options!
  3. McGill Pre-Registration Orientation (PRO) will start next week so make sure you’re signed up! More details can be found below in the “Attend” section.
  4. Don’t forget to check out our summer webinar schedule! Webinars are a great way to connect directly with McGill services! Learn about Montreal housing, how to manage your money, navigating healthcare, and more!

We've got a ton of programs to help you build peer relationships, both with your fellow new students and with upper-years who can answer any and all questions about the McGill experience!

☆ International Buddy Program

Open to ALL incoming international students, the International Buddy Program helps new students adjust to their university experience and integrate into the McGill community by connecting with an upper-year mentor.

☆ New Student Mentorship Program

The New Student Mentorship Program connects you with a trained, upper-year mentor in the same faculty or department (when possible) as you! Through regular, one-on-one check-ins throughout the academic year, mentors share valuable first-hand experience on how to navigate university life and campus resources.

☆ First Friend Program

To help ease your virtual transition to McGill, International Student Services (ISS) & Campus Life & Engagement (CL&E) invite you to connect with another student in your time zone as part of our newly launched First Friend Program! First Friend is a peer-to-peer program where you’ll be matched with a fellow new McGill student.

McGill Pre-Registration Orientation (PRO) will be running from May 25th – June 11th. McGill PRO is a series of online workshops for ALL new undergraduate students designed to help you navigate course registration and provide you with an opportunity to ask your Academic Advisor questions face-to-face virtually! Be sure to register ASAP to reserve your spot!

McGill University is located on land which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous peoples, including the Haudenosaunee (hoh-DEE-noh-SHoh-nee) and Anishinabeg (Ah-nish-ih-nah'-bey) nations. McGill honours, recognizes and respects these nations as the traditional stewards of the lands and waters on which we meet today.
