A message from Campus Life & Engagement, the one office dedicated to new McGill students.

Good morning Campus Life & Engage!

Happy Monday from the CL&E team! Although the start of the academic year is still a few months away, there are plenty of ways for you to start connecting with the university already. Today we want to provide you with a list of tech tools that will be useful to you throughout your time at McGill, especially during this Fall semester’s remote learning period.

Your McGill email

Your McGill email is your main point of contact for all things McGill (important university updates, e-bills, communicating with professors etc.). Using the Office 365 portal gives you access to your email as well as a number of cloud-based apps like file storage, a task manager, and a calendar.

McGill emails are a variation of firstname.lastname [at] You can verify your email address on the Minerva Personal Menu. Read our instructions on setting up your McGill email on the First-Year website.

myCourses is McGill's learning management system and is an online platform that enables you to view your classes, check grades, and more. Instructors use myCourses to enhance classroom-based learning with online materials and to make announcements, so you'll want to check it regularly.

It Takes All of Us:

You'll also have access to the mandatory sexual violence education program It Takes All of Us on myCourses. The program strives to increase awareness of sexual violence, to ensure that our campus culture is based on respect and consent, and to help create a community free of sexual violence. Failure to complete the program by the end of your first semester will result in a registration hold for the following semester.

By this point, you’re likely already familiar with Minerva. It’s the platform that you used to register for classes, that enables you to view your weekly class schedule, and that you’ll be paying your e-Bills on. Check out the First-Year website for more about what you can do on Minerva.

Academic Integrity Tutorial:

All undergraduate students are required to complete a mandatory Academic Integrity Tutorial in order to ensure that they know—and fully understand—what’s expected of them in the classroom. You can find the Tutorial on Minerva under the Student Menu and you must complete it before the end of your first semester at McGill. Failure to complete the Tutorial will result in a registration hold for the following semester.

one-stop portal connecting you to your McGill email account, Minerva, myCourses, library resources, myFuture (McGill's job search tool) and more!

This Fall 2020, much of your remote learning will happen through Zoom. Download it for free onto your laptop and phone, and don’t forget to attend our “Learning with Zoom” webinar.

IT Resources

  • Need a laptop or desktop computer? Check out the McGill Computer Store (MCS) for plenty of options!
  • When campuses are open, you can use McGill's uPrint system. It allows you to print anywhere, anytime in black & white and colour. Find a complete list of printers on campus in the Availability section of the uPrint page!
  • All students have free access to the latest version of Office 365 ProPlus, including Word, Excel, OneNote, and PowerPoint.

And don't forget your parents!

  • Minerva offers guest access to pay tuition, top up the OneCard account (for food and laundry services on campus), and view e-bills and tax receipts.
  • Read these guidelines to set up access privileges on your account.

With all of these tools, you'll be a tech savvy McGillian in no time! As always, you can visit our First-Year website for a complete list of resources to prepare for your arrival and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact the Campus Life & Engagement —we'll be happy to help. Have a great week!
