A message from Campus Life & Engagement, the one office dedicated to new McGill students.

Dear Campus Life & Engage,

Congratulations on your offer of acceptance to McGill, and welcome to our community!

The team at Campus Life & Engagement (CL&E) is here to help you get acquainted with McGill and support you as you navigate your new environment. We know that the next few months will hold both excitement and uncertainty as you prepare for your first year of university in the Fall. Know that we’ll be here with you every step of the way—in our weekly pre-arrival communications, we’ll be directing you towards a number of important resources, informing you about how to access services, and sharing need-to-know info to get you prepared for the start of school. You can also get all the information and resources you need, all in one place on the Your First Year at McGill website!

Each Friday, our emails will share information on a subject important to you, as a new undergraduate student. Beginning next week, our emails will also connect you to a module in McGill 101, our online orientation program through McGill’s myCourses platform, which contains more comprehensive information. Keep an eye out for your invitation to McGill 101 in an upcoming email!

In terms of what the Fall term will look like, we are planning for a return to more regular rhythms of on-campus academic activity by September and we are returning to in-person activities to the fullest extent possible. Therefore, you should plan to be in Montreal so that you can be on-site at McGill for the Fall term. We look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful campus!

Connect!

Don’t forget to join the 2021/22 Entering Class Facebook Group and/or the 2021/22 Entering Class Discord Community where you can introduce yourself and meet your peers. We’ll also be there to answer your questions and keep you updated with important information.

Also, take advantage of our student matching programs! Upper-year students are one of the best resources to help guide you through your first year at McGill!

  • For Canadian students, check out our New Student Mentorship program! This program connects incoming students with returning students who can offer advice on academics, or even just someone to grab a coffee with (in-person or virtually!).
  • For international students, International Student Services facilitates the International Buddy Program, which connects new international students with returning upper-years. Returning students can offer linguistic support, cultural guidance, and information about life at McGill and in Montreal.

Be sure to also check out our First Friend at McGill matching program! Unlike a mentorship program, you'll be matched with a fellow peer in the same faculty and timezone as you!

Attend our webinars!

We’ve organized webinars throughout the summer on topics important to undergraduate students, which you can attend to learn more directly from experts at McGill. You can check out the full webinar schedule to get more information.

Congratulations on your admission to McGill! We’ll be in touch soon with more information about gearing up for university. Until then, feel free to follow us on Instagram and like us on Facebook and/or email us at firstyear@mcgill.ca if you have any questions about life at McGill!

All the best!

McGill University is located on land which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous peoples, including the Haudenosaunee (hoh-DEE-noh-SHoh-nee) and Anishinabeg (Ah-nish-ih-nah'-bey) nations. McGill honours, recognizes and respects these nations as the traditional stewards of the lands and waters on which we meet today.
