A message from Campus Life & Engagement, the one office dedicated to new McGill students.

Hello Campus Life & Engage,

Welcome to Graduate Studies at McGill!

We are Campus Life & Engagement (CL&E, pronounced like “clay”), the office at McGill dedicated to ensuring you have an excellent first-year experience. We will be communicating with you throughout the summer with helpful information on adjusting to and thriving in graduate school. We also organize social activities, webinars, and graduate orientation events to connect you with your peers and the resources and services that support your success.

Each Friday, our emails will share information on topics of interest to new graduate students. Beginning next week, each email will also connect you to a module in GLO, your GradLife (Online) Orientation, which contains more comprehensive information. Keep an eye out for your invitation to GLO in next week’s email!

In terms of what the Fall term will look like, we are planning for a return to more regular rhythms of on-campus academic activity by September and we are returning to in-person activities to the fullest extent possible. Therefore, you should plan to be in Montreal so that you can be on-site at McGill for the Fall term. We look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful campus!

Connect!

CL&E organizes student matching programs, which give you a chance to meet fellow incoming grad students! These programs pair new and returning graduate students; the person you are paired with will help you navigate the first year of graduate studies and your life at McGill.

Don’t forget to join the 2021/22 Graduate Entering Class Facebook Group, where you can introduce yourself and meet your peers. We will also be there to answer your questions and keep you updated with important information.

Attend our webinars!

We will hold webinars throughout the summer on topics important to graduate students. For more information and to register, please access our Webinar Page.

We’ll be in touch next week with more information about gearing up for graduate school. Until then, you can find information for new graduate students on the Your First Year Website. You can also email us at firstyear@mcgill.ca if you have any questions about life at McGill!

Best,

Gilbert Lin

McGill University is located on land which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous peoples, including the Haudenosaunee (hoh-DEE-noh-SHoh-nee) and Anishinabeg (Ah-nish-ih-nah'-bey) nations. McGill honours, recognizes and respects these nations as the traditional stewards of the lands and waters on which we meet today.
