Hi Campus Life & Engage!

Course Registration is fast approaching, but never fear because CL&E is here (to help you get ready to get registered)! Read on for important dates, how to verify your standing, and a life-saving tool that'll help you plan the perfect schedule!

Take Note!

1️⃣. Know your year of study: U0 or U1? Verify your year of study by logging onto Minerva and following Registration Menu > Step 1: Check your Registration Eligibility and Verify Your Curriculum. If you are expecting advanced standing credits (IB, AP, French Bac etc.) visit the I’ve Been Accepted website for more details.

2️⃣. Know your registration date: When does registration open for you? Visit our When to Register website to find out! Registration will open that day at 9am EDT on Minerva and be open 24/7 until the end of the Add/Drop period on September 14th.

3️⃣. Key Academic Date: All students must be registered for at least one course by August 14th to avoid paying a late fee.

4️⃣. Visit the Preparing for Course Registration website and scroll down to the “Course Selection & Advising Information” section for direct links to your faculty’s first-year course selection and advising information.

Use!

Once you understand what courses you should be registering for in your first year, use the nifty Visual Schedule Builder (VSB) to visualize your weekly schedule! It'll show you multiple configurations of the classes you've chosen, and course details such as:

  • the number of open seats
  • location (if applicable)
  • number of credits
  • CRNs (Course Reference Numbers)

💡 TIP: CRNs can be copied and pasted from the VSB into the "Quick Add" section on your Minerva registration menu! This will help you register as quickly as possible.

Note: VSB does not actually register you in courses, it is only a tool to help coordinate your schedule.

Attend!

Our Pre-Arrival Webinars are a great way to learn more about about any topic. Get tips from McGill experts from the comfort of your own home! Our webinar on McGill 101 shows you how to access the Course Registration Module, which gives you step-by-step instructions on how to register, use the VSB and more!

Sign up for our upcoming webinars about financial planning, housing, healthcare, McGill's academic culture, and more! Spaces are limited, so register below ASAP.

As always, if you have any questions, please email us at firstyear@mcgill.ca.

Cheers!

McGill University is located on land which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous peoples, including the Haudenosaunee (hoh-DEE-noh-SHoh-nee) and Anishinabeg (Ah-nish-ih-nah'-bey) nations. McGill honours, recognizes and respects these nations as the traditional stewards of the lands and waters on which we meet today.
