Reappointment of Heather Berringer as Chief Librarian and Associate Provost, Academic Operations and Services

Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to announce that Heather Berringer has been appointed for a new five-year term as Chief Librarian and Associate Provost, Academic Operations and Services—formerly Associate Provost, Learning Services—effective July 1, 2022. Heather has been Chief Librarian at UBC Okanagan since 2014; the role of Associate Provost, Learning Services was added on January 1, 2019.

Heather holds a Master of Library and Information Studies from Dalhousie University and a Bachelor of Arts in French Language and Literature from Acadia University.

During her first term as Chief Librarian and Associate Provost, Heather provided leadership in the planning, development and coordination of an integrated vision for learning services for the campus. This resulted in new developments within the Student Learning Hub, Centre for Scholarly Communication, makerspaceUBCO and the open education and academic integrity portfolios. During this time, Heather also assumed temporary oversight of the Centre for Teaching and Learning from July 2020 to May 2021 and responsibility for developing and implementing a number of online learning supports, including the online learning coaches, learning design interns, learning technology rovers and online invigilation services.

Over the next five years, Heather will continue to provide leadership for the UBC Okanagan Library and, in alignment with campus priorities, her Associate Provost role will focus on infrastructure development and implementation of the Continuing and Professional Education unit; furthering the campus' commitment to experiential learning opportunities for students, in collaboration with the Associate Vice-President, Students portfolio; and leadership of UBC Okanagan’s academic integrity portfolio.

Heather will also provide support to the Enrolment Services portfolio, provide leadership of Open Educational Resources grants and programs and will serve as the Provost Office’s liaison with the Student Academic Success Committee and Informal Learning Spaces Committee.

We greatly appreciate Heather’s continued leadership in the Provost Office and UBC Okanagan Library and we look forward to working with her.

Sincerely,

Rehan Sadiq
