Dear colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Greg Garrard will serve as Dean pro tem in the Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies from July 1, 2022, to January 31, 2023, during Dean Bryce Traister’s administrative leave.

Dr. Garrard is the Associate Dean, Research and Graduate Studies and a Professor of Environmental Humanities in the Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies. Dr. Garrard joined UBC Okanagan in 2013 and co-designed the Interdisciplinary Graduate Studies Sustainability Theme and the Bachelor of Sustainability degree.

Dr. Garrard obtained an MA and BA (Honours) from the University of Wales, Swansea and a PhD from the University of Liverpool. Dr. Garrard’s current research focuses on his Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council-funded Insight Development Grant project, Kelownafornia: Cultures of Nature in the Okanagan Valley.

He is known worldwide for his work in environmental criticism and is Co-Editor of the Environmental Cultures series from Bloomsbury Academic. He has just completed a major revision to his book Ecocriticism, the most widely used introduction to the field.

I am pleased that Dr. Garrard has accepted this position and I look forward to working with him in his capacity as Dean pro tem.

Sincerely,

Rehan Sadiq
