Dear CATS community,

It’s a privilege to connect with you online. Feeling lonely during this pandemic is certainly a common experience. With social distancing, our world has been reduced and many of us are spending more time alone than we ever have before. However, in one important way, we are more together than ever.  In excess of one-third of humanity is currently practicing social distancing. While we adhere to these preventative measures to protect ourselves, we are in fact, working together to protect each other. We may feel alone, but in reality, we have never been as united on a global scale for a common purpose and in the interest of a greater good.

Whether you have used CATS services before or not, you are integral to the CATS community! Our bi-weekly online chats allow community members to connect, our social media platforms are active, we can meet with you online one-on-one, and we are always available at cats@mcgill.ca. You are not alone.

Complete our survey below to let CATS know how we can best be of service during this unprecedented time.

Remotely yours,

The CATS Team

Even for the most introverted, social distancing can be challenging, especially if you aren't able to visit with loved ones and friends. Join us for our weekly Virtual CATS Corner chats via Zoom Meetings, where we talk about varied topics, answer your questions, and most importantly, we work on staying collectively motivated and focused on our respective professional goals.

Thank you for joining us on Tuesday, April 7 where we talked about social media, the need to disconnect and how to filter real news versus the fake news in circulation. We are back at it again tomorrow, Thursday, April 9 where we talk about re-imaging what is next for you, post COVID-19, and how to explore your possibilities and go beyond what we think our limits are.

Creativity: Its Knives

“Poetry is the only companion

get used to its knives

because it’s the only one” -Raul Gomez Jattin

Creativity is a walk under the pouring rain. You don’t get rid of the storm until you finish the piece that drains your thoughts.  Nobody is more creative than when darkness and brokenness settle in. We only need to look at the life stories of the most memorable artists to realize that their masterpieces were born in the midst of wars and personal tragedies.

Here are some more of my personal COVID-19 coping tips:

  • Try some easy and effective online fitness videos, such as Madfit - don't have equipment? Don't worry, the trainer offers multiple no equipment videos!
  • Listen to inspiring podcasts - some of my favorites are:
    • On Purpose by Jay Shetty,
    • The School of Greatness by Lewis Howes
    • Unlocking Us by Brene Brown, and
    • How I Built This by Guy Raz.
  • Discover your artistic abilities and start to draw or paint - I for one like to call myself artistically-challenged, and I finally bought this incredible book on Amazon "How to Draw Modern Florals - An Introduction to the Art of Flowers, Cacti and More" by Alli Koch, and the truth is, I'm having so much fun with it. Now, more than ever, maintain a good sense of humor. Whatever you choose to do, just do you to stay positive!
