Dear CATS Community,

Wherever this note finds you, we hope that you are healthy, safe and well! For now, and into the fall, activities of the School of Continuing Studies, and by extension, CATS, are remote and being held on platforms like Zoom. After more than two months of physical distancing, we know that physical distancing does not have to be social distancing! The active CATS community is still available for you! Twice per week, we offer remote chats on career-related topics featuring special guests. These are designed for you to have a place to talk about issues of concern and interest to you. We are also available to meet with you one-on-one by video or on the telephone to work through your career action plan, discuss strategic volunteering opportunities, review your career tools, including your CV and cover letter, enhance your LinkedIn profile and practice interview skills. We will continue to add online workshops and webinars for your continued growth and career exploration and we will launch our Mentoring pilot program in June. We are also social on LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook, and welcome your feedback and questions by email. While we look forward to in-person CATS events and activities, we encourage you to engage with us online.

Let’s connect!

Even for the most introverted, social distancing can be challenging, especially if you aren't able to visit with loved ones and friends. Join us for our weekly Virtual CATS Corner chats via Zoom Meetings, where we talk about varied topics, answer your questions, and most importantly, we work on staying collectively motivated and focused on our respective professional goals.

I’ve seen it dozens of times as a career advisor. At some point, after the handshake, work experience list, and presentation of skills, the truth finally pours out: “I need to do something more meaningful. Something with purpose.” So often, my conversations turn from fields and industries, to the individual’s desire to simply make a difference.

As a purpose-driven career advisor, I hear this message countless times. Newcomers to Canada seeking to reconnect to their previous careers, individuals shifting to or entering nonprofit spheres – core to my mission is to help people find purpose in their careers.

Worthwhile Summertime Reading

As a person who loves a good story and is easily bored, the how-to books that I most enjoy feature easily digestible formats, offer relatable narrative and first-hand examples, are creative in their approach and are applicable to multiple industries.
