Director's Message
Dear alumni and friends,
The new term is officially here and UBC sees the return of in-person classes this week. The university community has worked hard over the last several months to ensure the return to campus is safe and productive for everyone, and I want to thank our faculty, staff, and students for their efforts. With public health measures in place, including masks and rapid testing, I look forward to welcoming back students and visitors.
To learn more about the university’s safe return plan, visit https://covid19.ubc.ca/campus-return-plan/. And if you’re eligible and you haven’t already gotten vaccinated, I encourage you to do so.
Over the summer, several of our faculty members were recognized by their peers for their outstanding work and research contributions. You can learn more about their achievements, including Dr. Mukesh Eswaran making history with the Canadian Economics Association, in this month’s newsletter.
You’ll also meet a recent Bachelor of International Economics alumna, Vasu Agarwal. She’s launched a start-up venture with help from e@UBC, an innovative program that helps support the entrepreneurial pursuits of UBC community members, including alumni.
Lastly, you yourselves may be transitioning to in-office, remote, or hybrid work this fall. Some of you may also be starting a new job, role, or career. Or some of you may be enjoying retirement. I want to wish you well on whatever your next steps may be. As VSE alumni, I am confident you have the momentum you need for continued success.
Until next time,
Dr. Patrick Francois, VSE Director
