Dear residence students,

As you are aware, the university recently began an initiative, led by McGill researchers, to monitor the presence of the virus that causes COVID-19 in the wastewater of our residences. We emailed you earlier to let you know this initiative was beginning, and we indicated that you would be contacted, as required, based on the results of the testing.

Tests in the past two days have detected the virus in the wastewater from New Residence Hall. This means that someone with COVID-19 has been in the building. As a result, the alert level in New Residence Hall has been raised to the precursor level.

Students who live at New Residence Hall are asked to take the following actions:

1. Wear masks for all interaction with other residents and residence staff.

2. Reduce your contacts as compared to your normal level of activity.

3. Get tested immediately.

Whether or not you are protected/vaccinated, you need to get tested to ensure that potentially asymptomatic cases are identified as early as possible. Call the Quebec COVID-19 line at 1-877-644-4545 for any questions about testing or your particular situation.

4. Report a positive test result to the university’s Case Management Group.

You must report a positive test result to the COVID-19 Case Management Group at 514-398-3000 if you have been on-campus (including at Residences or Athletics & Recreation) in the 48 hours prior to your symptoms appearing (or, if asymptomatic, 48 hours prior to the date of the COVID test) so disinfection and contact tracing can be completed. These are important safety measures to protect others in our community.

Note that the alert level at New Residence Hall will be returned to the vigilance level following four consecutive days of no presence of the virus being detected in the wastewater.
