2022 Critical Research Equipment & Tools Program

The CRET Program supports the acquisition, development, repairs, replacement, or creation of critical research infrastructure at UBC Okanagan. Open to researchers in all disciplines. Applicants may submit funding requests between $2500 –$100k. Apply by Feb. 2.



Advance UBC’s Indigenous Strategic Plan through Innovative or Transformative Projects

The Indigenous Strategic Initiatives fund supports faculty, staff and students to undertake projects that advance the six priority areas of the Indigenous Strategic Plan. Stream 1 & 2 letter of intent and stream 3 full application deadline: Jan. 27.


Build or Strengthen Research Collaborations with UBC Vancouver

Collaborative Research Mobility Awards provide up to $5,000 to support travel, equipment or other partnership costs for new or existing collaborations between UBC researchers in the Okanagan and Vancouver. Apply by Feb. 7.


Canada Foundation of Innovation

Funding to Support Research Infrastructure Costs

CFI's John R. Evans Leaders Fund supports the infrastructure costs of individual faculty members or up to three faculty where shared infrastructure is required/possible. Upcoming agency deadlines: Feb. 15 & Jun. 15.



Gain Insight, Mentorship on CIHR Peer-Review Processes

The Reviewer in Training Program allows early-career researchers to receive mentorship and participate in the peer-review process for the spring Project Grant program. Note eligible Fall 2021 applicants need not reapply. Apply by Feb. 4.


Digital Research Alliance of Canada

Help Champion Sound Research Data Management in Canada

Support a shift in data culture in Canada's digital research infrastructure ecosystem by promoting sound research data management (RDM) practices in your area through the Data Champions Pilot Project. Funding up to $50k per applicant. Application deadline Feb. 3.


Contribute your RDM Expertise as a Merit Reviewer

The Digital Research Alliance of Canada seeks volunteer experts from all disciplines, fields or areas of interest for its merit review committee for the Data Champions Pilot Project and other funding opportunities. Participation begins as soon as Feb. 2022. Applications are open.



Leverage International Collaborations to Address Natural Sciences & Engineering Research Challenges

Alliance International grants support Canadian researchers to work with international colleagues to pursue new knowledge, technologies and solutions to complex problems. Funding of $25k up to $100k is available to initiate collaborations or participate in international projects. Applications are open.


Collaborate with US Colleagues in Quantum Science or Artificial Intelligence

NSERC and the National Science Foundation have partnered to support collaborations in quantum science and artificial intelligence between Canadian and US research communities. Deadlines vary. See NSERC and/or NSF site for full details.

Update to TCPS 2: Course on Research Ethics 2022

The Secretariat on Responsible Conduct of Research has replaced the Tri-Agency Policy Statement 2: Course on Research Ethics (TCPS 2:CORE). The updated course, TCPS 2: CORE 2022, focuses on ethics guidance that is applicable to all research involving human participants, regardless of discipline or methodology.


Hire International Students for Support with Research Projects

The Work Learn International Undergraduate Research Award Program subsidizes faculty members to hire undergraduate international students to work on their research projects full-time during summer 2022. Proposal deadline Jan. 28.


Recording of NSERC CREATE Webinar & Strategic Discussion Available
